1080 - Oops, button sounds are interfering with other sounds. What do I do?

by - Joseph Ganci

I have just finished my first AW project. However, I am having trouble managing the interplay between the sound in my global buttons and the narration. I have a quit and a main menu that has a synthesized voice that speaks upon rollover. I also have voice narration in the piece. Everything is fine unless the user rolls over one of the buttons inadvertedly and the piece goes blank.

This is a common problem. Usually, the best thing to do is to avoid the button sounds entirely. What you can do instead is to have hot spots set to "cursor in area" along with the buttons. In the hot spot feedback, check to see if audio is playing using the soundplaying or mediaplaying variables. If it is, don't play the "button" sound, otherwise do play it. I hope this helps.
