How to subscribe and unsubscribe

back to Contents

You can subscribe to this list by sending a message
to the listserv address LISTSERV@LISTSERV.CC.KULEUVEN.AC.BE with the command SUBSCRIBE AWARE <your name>. A subject is not needed.

example:

SUBSCRIBE AWARE Danny Engelman

The listserver knows you by your email address!
That is the email address it finds in the From:
field of the email message you send to (un)subscribe.
You may leave the list at any time by sending the UNSUBSCRIBE AWARE command to the listserv address.

If you experience problems with your subscription please contact the listmanagers.

How to send messages to the list

back to Contents

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to the list address AWARE@LISTSERV.CC.KULEUVEN.AC.BE
This is called "sending mail to the list", because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people subscribed.
You must NEVER try to send any COMMAND to that address, as it will be distributed to all people subscribed.

By default you don't get a copy of your message back via the list. Rest-assured it will be delivered to all other subscribers.

-----IMPORTANT----IMPORTANT----IMPORTANT----IMPORTANT-------

Because these messages go to over 850 people subscribed;
PLEASE
obey the following rules:

  • Use a descriptive text for the subject field.
  • Please use the following prefixes in the message subject field; you're messages WON'T be refused if you do NOT use these prefixes, but if you want your
messages to be read by the 'Authorware gurus' you better stick to them.

    A5: Message about Authorware 5.x
A5Mac: Message about Authorware for Mac
A5X: Cross platform issues for Authorware 5.x
A5Web: Message about the Authorware Webplayer
UCD or Xtra: Technical Message about UCDs or Xtras
    KO: Message about Knowledge Objects
OT: for message not about Authorware (send these with great care!)

  • If your message doesn't fit into any of these categories try to write a very descriptive subject for your message.

  • When replying on messages, comment (with the >symbol) only the text you reply to. Please delete ALL unnecessary lines.

  • If your reply to a message is only interesting for the original sender then please reply to him/her personnally. If your reply might be interesting for more people subscribed, send your reply to the list.

TO BE SHORT:

  • Descriptive subject fields
  • Use subject prefixes (A5 , A5Mac , A5Web , KO , OT )
  • Delete lines when replying
  • Reply to sender if possible

With the command SET AWARE DIGEST you can tell the listserver that you don't want to receive individual messages, but one daily message with all messages listed in it. To change this again from digest to mail, you send the command SET AWARE MAIL

How to get mail archives

back to Contents

You might want to check out the webarchive first.

But if you only have email access or want the files you can get a list of the available archive files by sending an INDEX AWARE command to the listserv address

You can then order these files with a GET AWARE LOGxxxx command.

The xxxx-s in LOGxxxx are the year and the month. To get the log of april 1994, send the command GET AWARE LOG9404
